Electronic Press Kit
Why is an EPK important?
Press kits show that you’re serious, here to stay and provide contact information in a way that media publishers expect if you consider yourself a real artist / band. Without an electronic press kit, you won’t be able to release news about your new works officially.
An EPK usually consists of a biography, contact information, info about your recent work, possibly a schedule and links to your music. Media such as images and videos are encouraged where accepted.
Example of a simple EPK:
Joshua Autrey Serrano is an entrepreneur with a talent for jazz, rap and pop music. He’s lived all over Southern California and performed with other independent artists in coffee shops and on beaches. His music is primarily influenced by top 50s jazz, 80s pop and 90s rap artists.
Music Video Production
Music videos are essential because they’re the easiest way to market music. They’re easily shared, offer visuals to accentuate the audio and provide a commentary section for feedback.
Influencer Partnership
The best way to advertise is to have someone else vouch for you and that’s exactly what influencer marketing is all about. You don’t need a huge budget of thousands to start and you don’t need the biggest influencers to make an impact.
Music Distribution
Getting your music into people’s ears can seem daunting, but music distribution is widely accessible now. You can be on Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon, Apple Music, Pandora and many more in a matter of days.
ASCAP/BMI Registration
Registering your work provides you with copyright protection and recognition as a legitimate artist / band as well as other benefits.
Content Creation
Having an online presence is expected for artists of all genres. Build an online fan-base and update them with content, schedules and news pertaining to your music career.
Radio Station Submission
Get heard faster by extending your reach through radio stations online and old school radio. Most charge a fee unless stated otherwise.
Sync Licensing
If you can imagine your music in movies, commercials, show and more, then sync licensing is what you need to start. It requires patience but can pay off in the end.
You can get everything you need using Your Favorite Artist
There are three ways to get paid for making music: selling tickets to live performances, royalties from distributed songs and sync licenses.
Some artists earn extra income from paid partnerships, sponsorships, endorsements and being featured in ads.
